“In the Life” Brings You Highlights from Mayfair 2010
Words and photos by Jandee Weninger
Mayfair got its start in 1986 as “the Lehigh Valley’s premier outdoor arts and crafts, music, and food festival.” Over the course of five days, Allentown’s Cedar Beach Park is taken over by all the requisite festival activities and then some: dancers, storytellers, art exhibits, local and national musical acts, hands-on crafts demonstrations and, of course, food.
There were so many interesting people, talented artists and musicians, delicious and creative food choices and fun activities. I visited every artist’s booth. There were handmade carvings, jewelry, swings, hammocks, clothing and dog treats. In terms of eats, there was something for everyone, with three separate food courts with everything from kettle corn and funnel cake to Jamaican, Brazilian and Indian food. I tried my very first deep fried Snickers bar and literally cried tears of joy. I made sure not to miss Post Junction’s performance. They consistently bring the funk wherever they go. I ran into old friends, connected with new ones and even got a tan!
