1. Live in the Square presents Turning Tides
Friday from 7:30 to 9:30, Centre Square, Easton
Easton’s monthly outdoor, live music series returns with the traditional American, Irish and Scottish music of Turning Tides. More information online at www.EastonMainStreet.org.
2. Large Flowerheads at Bethlehem Sculpture Garden
Friday from 6 to 8pm, E. Church St. (near City Hall), Bethlehem
Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission presents another installment in its annual Bethlehem Sculpture Garden Concert Series. This is another great free, outdoor show. If you’ve never seen them, the Large Flowerheads are a very groovy 60’s kinda band. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and dancing shoes!
3. Opening of Ajami at 19th St. Theatre
Friday at 8pm, (more shows Saturday and Sunday), Civic Theatre, 527 N. 19th St., Allentown
Good movies do come to the Valley! Here’s a great example. From Civic’s website: Set in Jaffa’s multi-ethnic Ajami neighborhood, home to Jews, Muslims and Christians, this Oscar-nominated film’s use of location filming, non-professional actors and balanced perspective make a complex, cross-cultural drama all the more real.
4. June Bug Jamboree
Saturday from 10am to 1pm at the Easton Farmers’ Market, Centre Square, Easton
A celebration of the bugs! This one-day event at EFM features a Lady Bug Tea Party and a Bug Parade. The Market Grill will feature Doreen Harvest of Green Harvest cooking Panini pizzas so bring the kids and maybe go easy on the bug spray. 🙂
5. Moravian Book Shop’s Local Authors’ Day
Saturday from Noon to 3pm, Moravian Book Shop, 428 Main St., Bethlehem
Moravian Book Shop is hosting an afternoon with authors from around the Lehigh Valley who have written books about various topics, for all ages. Come out and support these local authors! (Shameless plug: I’ll be there, too, with pocket guides to Bethlehem and Easton, so come say hi!)
6. 2010 New to You Sale
Saturday from 9am to 3pm, Sunday from Noon to 3pm, Burnside Plantation, 1461 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem

7. Allentown Public Library Summer Saturdays Book Sale
Saturdays from Noon to 4pm (through August 21), First Floor of the Allentown Public Library, 1210 Hamilton St., Allentown
From the Library: The sale will include lots of used & “like new” books including best-sellers, classics, paperbacks, children’s books & more. Lots of great books and lots of great deals! All proceeds help the Allentown Public Library so please stop by and please help spread the word!
8. Maria Woodford & Jake Heck Live
Saturday from 8 to 10:30 pm, Connexions Gallery, 213 Northampton St., Easton

9. MS Fundraiser Dinner for MS Bike Team GO DOG GO
Sunday from 5 to 7 pm, Mex Tex Trio, 42 S. Third St., Easton
So how’s this for a cool way to do some good… all you have to do is go have a great dinner at Mex Tex Trio Sunday night, and 20% of your bill will be donated to the National MS Society. Pretty good deal, right?
