One Cool Thing to Lift Your Spirits

by Carrie Havranek

Extraordinary events require a break in the pattern, so Laini and I decided to do something different this week. Last Friday, when the earthquake hit Japan and the Lehigh Valley was deluged with water, I was haunted all day by this palpable sense that a thin line connects us all. Instead of telling you about cool things and places you can do and see in the Lehigh Valley, we want to share this video with you. It’s a parable for our times, and I hope you find it as inspiring as we did.

How can you help? How about donating money to the American Red Cross (donate $10 by texting REDCROSS to 90999, which supports disaster relief), Unicef, CARE, or other organizations who make it their duty to help those in desperate need during desperate times? How about a simple prayer for all of those who have passed and who need our blessings and love? Organize a Valley-wide food drive? There are food shortages in Japan and people are hoarding food because they’re concerned, but we’re concerned that food isn’t going to get to the most hard-hit places.
