The Lehigh Valley Sends Love and Support to the Andrettis: You can do this!

This time next Sunday, I’ll be at my first Indy 500. This one’s also the 100th anniversary of the race. To honor this, I’ve been running posts on this site all month – about the tradition of racing in the Andretti family, the tradition of racing in the Lehigh Valley, and the relationship the Andretti drivers have with the Indy 500.

As I write this, out of five Andretti Autosport drivers, only one – John Andretti – has qualified for the race. With a little help from the weather, hopefully most, if not all, of the other drivers will qualify today. A lot of this is new to me. I’m learning as I go. But I love it. So basically, yesterday was the day when the top 24 drivers acquired their spots (including the fearless and amazing 22-year-old Simona de Silvestro, who came back to qualify after a horrific accident on Thursday.) Today is what’s known as “Bump” Day. It’s when the rest of the drivers will compete for the nine spots left. Anyone who doesn’t qualify doesn’t race.

So please cross your fingers, say prayers, and send them west to Indy in support of the Andretti Autosport team. And if you’d like to let them know you’re thinking about them and wish them well, they’re all on twitter, along with a whole bunch of other great race fans, race resources and some great bloggers. I’ve listed them all below. Let’s let the whole world how much the Lehigh Valley loves the Andrettis! Ready, set, go!
