Laini’s List of Nine Things to Do This Weekend in the Lehigh Valley – First Weekend of March

1. Allentown Restaurant Month Begins

Through March 31, Various participating restaurants throughout Allentown

As part of its 250th Anniversary celebration, Allentown has launched its inaugural Allentown Restaurant Month. This is a great opportunity to experience some of the over 20 different restaurants involved.

 

2. Totally 80’s First Friday

Friday from 6 to 10 pm, Various locations throughout Southside Bethlehem

From the Downtown Bethlehem Association: March’s First Friday is taking you back to the ’80s! Learn how to sing like a “pro” at Karaoke demonstrations, enjoy live music at several participating First Friday locations, be WOW-ed by the impromptu Break Dancing performed by The Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange, enjoy what’s new in the shops and galleries, sample delicious goodies along the way.

 

3. Next-Door-Neighbor Opening Celebrations at the Grand Eastonian for “Growing Season” & “Denim Project”

Saturday afternoon/evening, 140C and 140D Northampton Street, Easton

Celebrate the Grand Opening of “Denim Project,” a new shop dedicated to all things of the blue-jean variety and the opening reception for “Growing Season,” the newest exhibit from our creative friends at Mercantile Home. Party-hopping doesn’t get easier than this.

 

4. Beatles Fine Art Exhibit

Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, America on Wheels, 5 N. Front St., Allentown

This tribute to the Beatles and their accomplishments will include a display of artwork done by individual Beatles. Also happening this weekend will be the sale of Beatles memorabilia, showings of “A Hard Day’s Night”, and a performance by the Easton School of Rock.

 

5. Pretending to Be on TV

Sunday from 8 to 11 pm, Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem

From the Pretending to Be on TV Facebook event page: Pretending to be on TV returns to it’s original time slot, the first Sunday of the month, on March 4th. This time with Doogie Horner, who you may remember from America’s Got Talent, along with Chip Chantry from his own one man show and talk show Face Time. We’ll also be rocked upon by the band Keystone Kids.

 

6. 13th Annual Plaid Show: Occupy Plaid! 99%

Sunday from 12 to 3 pm, The Gallery at St. John’s Church, 33o Ferry St., Easton

It’s that time of year to celebrate all things plaid with this iconic exhibit presented by the Gallery at St. John’s.

 

7. Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss & Read Across America

Friday from 6 to 7:30 pm, Moravian Book Shop, 428 Main St., Bethlehem

From the Moravian Book Shop website: Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! We’re having a party on this special day. The Cat in the Hat will be coming to play! We’ll have cake and crafts, and storytime too. Now all that we need for the party is you! So if it is wet, or if it is sunny, we all can have lots of good fun that is funny!

 

8. Opening of “Backyard Paintings” by Elizabeth Johnson

Sunday from 2 to 5 pm, Quadrant Book Mart and Coffee House, 20 N. 3rd St., Easton

Celebrate Elizabeth Johnson’s first local exhibit of oil painting. Matthew Crain will be reading “Concerning Oscar,” at around 3pm. Refreshments will be served.

 

9. Tahya Performs at Aladdin Restaurant

Saturday with shows at 7:30 and 8:30, Aladin Restaurant, 651 Union Blvd. Allentown
