Fabulous Finds Friday: Apotheca Salon
by Jana K. Hoffman
If you attended the First Friday celebration in South Side Bethlehem last week, you may have spotted a new shop on the corner of Third and Adams Streets. Formerly the location of Clothesline Organics, the anticipated Apotheca Salon & Boutique, owned by Amanda King and Julie Casciano, welcomed patrons into its charming shop on a balmy yet lovely Friday evening. I couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity to break the soft opening news to my Fabulous Finds Friday readers, so consider this one of your first looks into yet another wonderful addition to South Side’s retail community.

Upon entering, you’ll immediately notice a floral wallpapered accent wall. That’s where Apotheca’s hair stylists transform clients. To the right is an industrial-chic shelving unit containing prettily packaged skincare and hair goods from brands that I’ve never even heard of like Somme Institute, Davines and soon-to-arrive U Spa.
King says she chose Somme for its vitamin-infused formulas available for every skin type including sensitive, sun-damaged and acne-prone. As an actual product user, she believes in its results. Davines comes highly recommended by one of Apotheca’s stylists and is an eco-friendly and sustainable line known for its abilities to work well with most hair types. King mentions that U Spa was chosen as the shop’s treatment line and will soon be available for purchase. Take note, readers: Apotheca is the only place in the Lehigh Valley to carry U Spa.
After picking out a skincare or hair care regimen that’s right for you (just ask one of the helpful and knowledge staff members), cross the freshly stained hardwood floors to the beauty bar for a full-on color attack. Apotheca carries Julie Hewett, one of Hollywood’s foremost beauty pros. Her cosmetics line comes stocked with both punchy and muted colors plus something a little shimmery for the fun-at-heart. You can create a whole-face look with the line’s foundations, concealers, and eye, cheek, and lip colors. I loved the Lip Lush lip gloss that’s perfect for layering with your favorite balm or lipstick. What’s more, all of Apotheca’s lines were chosen with the environment and furry friends in mind–no product has been tested on animals.
This new full-service salon not only offers great products but you can also enjoy a quick shopping retreat, too. Its rack of frilly finds include dresses and tops with an Urban Outfitters-meets-Forever 21 appeal. King says they will switch out styles from week to week so check back often for new merchandise.
According to King, Apotheca will officially open on Monday, June 14, but if you happen to be in the area and the doors are open feel free to stop in and say hello. Walk-ins are welcome for waxings. King highly recommends scheduling an appointment for hair and facial services. Apotheca wants to be the place you go to boost the appearance of your skin or give your hair a product makeover. I’m ready for my close-up now. Are you?
