laini’s list of 9 – June 11, 12, 13

1. Blues, Brews & BBQ

Saturday from Noon to 10pm, PPL Plaza, 9th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown

This event has music, food and soul. That’s pretty much all I need to have a good time. If you need more information, go here. Maybe I’ll see you there!

2. Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community

Saturday at 9am, Sand Island, Historic Downtown Bethlehem

In addition to being a beautiful walk, this is an annual fundraiser that benefits local, nonprofit health and human service agencies across the Lehigh Valley. If you’re unable to walk, but would like to help, please consider making a donation to an organization like ProJeCt of Easton. To support ProJeCt in this year’s walk, you can donate online at this link. Click Bethlehem, then Register Now, select ProJeCt (or the nonprofit of your choice, this is just mine), then click Make a Pledge and “make a general donation”

3. indiemade craft market

Saturday from 10am to 5pm, Bethlehem Ice Rink, Illick’s Mill Rd., Bethlehem

I’ll admit, I don’t know a lot about craft fairs, but I’m getting the impression that it’s a pretty BIG DEAL that this craft fair is happening in Bethlehem. I also get the impression that this is NOT your grandmother’s (or even mother’s) craft fair. From the website: This fun, funky indiemade craft market highlights 35 indie crafters! This year, in conjunction with the craft show, we are celebrating WWKiP Day (World Wide Knit in Public Day) and asking knitters in the area to bring a chair and join us for knitting circles.

4. Festa Italiana

Friday 6 to 11pm, Saturday 5 to 11pm,  Sunday 4 to 9pm, Courtyard near Washington & 9th St., Easton

This classic Easton cultural festival is a 3-day event put on by the parishioners of St. Anthony’s as a fundraiser for the church. It is run by all volunteers and features music (even polkas!), Bingo, and of course… wonderful Italian food.

5. Watch Hotel for Dogs Under the Stars… and hoop and meet some dogs!

Saturday from 6 to 11pm, Friendship Park, 247 E. North St., Bethlehem

The movie should start by 8:45/9pm, but before that there will be animals (& people 🙂 from the Center for Animal Health and Welfare to meet and hooping by Tina and the gang from Spirithoops! This event is part of the MoviesGames&More series and is brought to us by the North by Northwest Initiative.

6. Portuguese Heritage Day – Festival & Parade

Friday from 6pm to Saturday at 10pm, Holy Infancy School, E. 4th St. near Webster, South Side Bethlehem

Another cultural gem of the Lehigh Valley. Celebrate South Side Bethlehem’s vibrant Portuguese community. Online information is a bit scarce but it appears there is a meeting (not the work kind!) at Bethlehem City Hall at noon on Saturday which may launch the parade back over to the South Side.

7. Opening of Once Upon A Midnight

Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2 and 8pm, Theatre 514, Civic Theatre of Allentown

From Civic’s facebook page: We are excited to open Rae Labadie’s adaptation of selected Edgar Allen Poe works entitled Once Upon a Midnight. Don’t miss your chance to see this unique piece of theatre!

8. Wilson Borough Lions Community Fair

Friday and Saturday, 6 to 11pm, Meuser Park, Wilson (near Easton)

If you’ve never been there… think carnival! And not as in Rio’s, as in every-small-town-in-this-country’s-for-the-last-century… ferris wheel, cotton candy, teenagers dressed inappropriately, lemonade! Basically it’s your straight-up old-school carnival. Saturday night has been known to get a bit rowdy. You’ve been warned.

9. Old Fairgrounds Neighborhood Park Cleanup

Sunday from 1 to 4pm, Old Fairgrounds, 416 N. 5th St., Allentown

So your yard is all neat and tidy and you’re not sure what to do with yourself? Head on over to this neighborhood park and help the residents and kids keep it nice. You’ll make some new friends, get some sun, and do a good deed all at the same time. Don’t forget the sunblock and go here for more information.

That’s all for now, friends! Have a great weekend in our little Valley!
