Laini’s List of 9 Things To Do This Weekend in the Lehigh Valley
1. Lehigh River Blues Jam
Friday from 6 to 10 pm, Saturday from 2 to 10 pm and Sunday from 1 to 7 pm, Catasauqua Park, Catasauqua
The 6th Annual Lehigh River Blues Jam, hosted by the Women’s Blues Alliance, is one of the premiere blues events in the Valley every year. Tickets will for Friday are $5 and $10 for Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are also available for purchase on their website. This year’s Blues Jam will raise awareness for Alzheimers via local chapters of the Alzheimers Foundation of America and the Alzheimers Foundation.
2. World Music Performance Featuring Duo Jalal
Saturday at 2 pm in the Historic Chapel in the Easton Cemetery and again at 4 pm at Martha Posner’s “An Untamed Place,” Bushkill St., Easton
Come see the Duo JalalWorld Music Performance featuring Yousif Sheronick (world percussion) and Kathryn Lockwood (viola) the Art of Urban Environments Festival at Lafayette College this weekend. The Art of Urban Environments Festival is an outdoor exhibit of multi-media sculptures along the streets, streams and bridges of Lafayette College’s scenic campus and historic Easton. 3. Sabor Latin Festival
Friday from 6 to 11 pm, Saturday from Noon to 11 pm, Sunday from Noon to 6 pm, SteelStacks Campus, Bethlehem
Enjoy a taste of the region’s Latino culture at the very first festival to take place at the brand new SteelStacks – the Sabor Latin Festival! Sample the ethnic music, dances, and food available to celebrate the cultures’ heritage. Two ticketed concerts will also be held at the ArtsQuest Center’s Muskfest Café – Arturo Sandoval on Friday and Tito Puente Jr. & His Orchestra on Saturday. This is going to be hot. (in my best Paris Hilton impression)
4. Fundraiser for AUTISM SPEAKS
Friday from 7 to 9 pm, Celebrations Bar and Restaurant, 2204 Union Blvd. Allentown
Come out and support the fire fighters in their effort to raise money for a cure! Bethlehem Fire Fighters Local 735 will be bartending for tips. There will be raffles including a Las Vegas trip raffle, and the band “Hired Gun” will be playing from 9 pm to 1 am.
5. New-To-You-Sale
Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, Sunday from 12 to 3 pm, and Monday from 9 am to 1 pm
The 18th Annual New-to-You Sale is just the thing to help you finish your spring cleaning and update your summer wardrobe. Come check out the bargains and sell some of your own stuff too. What you might want to get rid of might be exactly what someone else is looking for! Sunday is half-price day, and Monday is half-price day and bag day.
6. Easton Soap Box Derby
Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm, Northampton Street to Centre Square, Easton
Come see the Easton Soap Box Derby and watch the kids race to the finish, the Circle! There will also be food, music, a car show and lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy.
7. Friends Of Tom Live Performance
Friday from 6 to 8 pm, Bethlehem Sculpture Garden, 10 E. Church St., East Side of City Hall, Bethlehem
The next in the 2011 Sculpture Garden Concert Series goes on this weekend with “Friends of Tom.” Sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission, concerts are held in a beautiful outdoor amphitheater-style sculpture garden. This concert is free to the public!
8. Skatefest
Sunday from 3 to 9 pm, Larry Holmes Drive, Easton
A great opportunity to see and learn about skating and biking. Chris Clark, a professional BMXer, will give two shows. There will be two live bands, and great food and beverages. If you haven’t seen it yet, this will be a nice time to check out Easton’s new waterfront parks.
9. Concert Fundraiser for Leukemia featuring Dina Hall and Jake Kaligis
Monday from 7 to 9 pm, Bethlehem Brew Works – Steel Gaarden, 569 Main St. Bethlehem
From the Facebook event page: Come down to Bethlehem Brew Works and enjoy a relaxing night of music and fun. A $10 donation will get you a fabulous concert by two of our finest local musicians Dina Hall and Jake Kaligis in the SteelGaarden. Our event is raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of the Lehigh Valley. We’ll also be drawing our winner for the iPad 2 raffle at around 8:30pm. Tickets are still available up to 8pm that day. They are $5 each or 3 for 10.
