Laini’s List of Nine Things to Do This Weekend in the Lehigh Valley – March 9, 10 & 11

1. Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl

Saturday from 6 to 9 pm, Various Locations, West End Allentown

Start St. Patrick’s Week right with this annual pub crawl to benefit the Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Crawl includes ten bars/restaurants, including Nino’s, Volpe’s, Ringer’s Roost and Jack Callaghan’s. Registration is at 6 pm; the crawl starts at 6:30. Some locations will have entertainment. 2. Marlow Rodale and Elizabeth Johnson Opening

Friday from 6 to 10 pm, Soft Machine Gallery, 725 N. 15th St., Ste. 7, Allentown

Attend this opening reception at Soft Machine Gallery for the new exhibit of the work of two talented Lehigh Valley painters. Check out the Facebook event page for lots of info about their work and their history. This reception looks like it’s going to be quite the party.

 

 

3. Community Art Workshop – Earth as Art: Examining Our Footprint from an Aerial Perspective

Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm, Nurture Nature Center, 518 Northampton St., Easton

Art instructor and environmentalist Tom Maxfield will lead twelve workshop participants through a presentation that will examine the human impact (or footprint) on the land we inhabit. Attendees will also be treated to a presentation of global land uses on NNC’s “Science on a Sphere” animated globe awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. An open discussion will be held to explore communicating a sense of place through abstract art. No fine art skills necessary – just a willingness to express yourself!

 

 

4. Lehigh County Bicentennial Community Celebration Day

Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm, Agricultural Hall, Allentown

Celebrate the 200th birthday of Lehigh County with birthday parties, a showcase of local musicians, and lots and lots of other events throughout the day.

 

 

5. ACLU-PA Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter presents: Beer for the Bill of Rights

Friday from 5:30 to 8 pm, Allentown Brew Works “High Gravity Room”, 812 W. Hamilton St., Allentown

If you have a passion for any of these issues — reproductive freedom, LGBT rights, racial justice, voting tights, free speech, criminal law reform, technology and liberty, immigrants’ rights, prisoners’ rights — you won’t want to miss this social event and opportunity to mingle with ACLU members and discuss what’s happening in the Lehigh Valley.

 

 

6. Connexions Open Mic

Friday from 8:30 to 11 pm, Connexions Gallery, 213 Northampton St., Easton

From the Facebook event page: “Every 2nd Friday of the month. Music, poetry, comedy – all welcome. All ages, all styles. BYOB, and we’ll pass the hat. Signups start at 8:00, music starts at 8:30.”

 

 

7. “Best Legs in a Kilt” Contest

Saturday at 5pm, Jack Callaghan’s Ale House, 2027 Tilghman St., Allentown

One of the stops on the Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl, Jack Callaghan’s wants to see who’s got the Best Legs in a Kilt. So kilt-wearers of the Valley, put on your kilt and get over there.

 

 

8. Side Splitting Saturday: Comedy at the Pub on Main

Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 pm, The Pub on Main, 102 E. Main St., Macungie

Come say good bye to winter and warm up with some of the Northeast’s funniest comedians at the Pub on Main!

 

 

9. Northampton County History Day

Starting at 2 pm, Sigal Museum, 342 Northampton St., Easton

The Sigal Museum will host more than 20 of Northampton County’s historical organizations, convening to share information about their sites and holdings.
