If you are looking for an outdoor activity this weekend that promises all of the fanfare and excitement of the running of the bulls in Pamplona and less of the danger, look no further than the Lehigh Valley Road Runners Kids 2010 Running Series. Session number four of the 2010 competition will be held Saturday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at the Lehigh Parkway.
Sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners (LVRR), the series is a collection of six Saturday morning races for children ages 3-14, with distances determined by age–the younger kids run shorter distances, starting at 1/8 of a mile. According to LVRR, the purpose of the program is to educate kids about the sport of cross country and to promote a healthy lifestyle.

In previous years, turnout for the races has been between 200 and 350 children. Each child who finishes will
receive a blue ribbon and snacks and drinks are provided after each race. Participants in the final 2010 race on August 7, will be awarded a medal, and runners who participate in at least four of the six 2010 races will receive a free T-shirt.
In addition to Saturday’s planned run, this season’s races were held on May 15 June 5, June 19. The remaining two races for the 2010 series are scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 24 and August 7, 2010. Check in for all races occurs from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the LVRR Clubhouse on the Little Lehigh Parkway the morning of the race.
Jennifer M. Marangos’s two sons ran in the June 19 race, although she had to carry her 3-year-old for part of it. She and her husband love living in Emmaus because of amazing community events such as this one. When Jennifer isn’t running races with her sons, she runs, along with her husband, the Emmaus-based consulting company Zephyros, Inc.
